Pattern Match Pro

How to Play Pattern Match Pro

Pattern Match Pro is a fast-paced memory challenge designed to test your spatial recall and focus. The goal is to memorize a hidden pattern of blue tiles and perfectly replicate it after the tiles disappear. As you progress, the grids grow larger and the patterns become more complex, pushing your cognitive limits.

The Objective

Your mission is to find all the “pattern” tiles in each round without losing your three lives. The game is divided into levels, each containing 3 rounds. Successfully completing a level increases the grid size and the number of tiles you must remember.

Official Rules

The game follows a strict phase-based structure to challenge your short-term memory:

  • The Memorization Phase: At the start of each round, the board will glow with a blue pattern. You have a limited time (determined by your level) to commit the locations to memory.
  • The Playing Phase: The blue highlight vanishes, and the tiles return to white. You must click or tap the tiles you believe were part of the pattern.
  • Correct Picks: Tiles you correctly identify will turn green and pulse.
  • Wrong Picks: Selecting a tile that wasn’t part of the pattern will trigger a red “shake” animation and cost you 1 life (❤️).
  • Winning a Round: The round ends once you have successfully found every tile in the pattern.
  • Game Over: The game concludes if you lose all 3 lives.

Understanding the Scoring & Leveling

The game tracks your speed and accuracy to calculate your score:

  • Base Score: You earn points for every correct tile you find.
  • Speed Bonus: The faster you clear a round after the playing phase begins, the more bonus points you receive.
  • Level Scaling: Every 2 levels, the grid size increases (from $3 \times 3$ up to a maximum of $7 \times 7$), and the number of pattern tiles increases as well.
  • Progress Dots: The dots at the top of the board show your progress through the current level’s 3 rounds. Blue indicates your current round, and green indicates completed rounds.

Top Strategies to Win

Chunking Information

Instead of trying to remember every individual tile, try “chunking” them into shapes (like a “T” shape, a square, or a diagonal line). It is much easier for the brain to remember two distinct shapes than seven random locations.

Stay Calm After a Mistake

If you lose a life, don’t panic-click. The red shake animation lasts about 400ms. Use that brief moment to refocus and visualize the remaining blue tiles before making your next selection.

The Speed vs. Safety Balance

While the Speed Bonus is tempting, accuracy is more important for reaching high levels. Losing a life makes the game harder, while a slightly slower “Perfect” round keeps your lives intact for the more difficult $7 \times 7$ grids later on.

Peripheral Vision

On larger $6 \times 6$ or $7 \times 7$ grids, try to soften your focus and look at the whole board rather than scanning row-by-row. Your peripheral vision is often better at capturing a “snapshot” of a spatial pattern than your direct focus.
