Smart Sudoku Plus
How to Play Smart Sudoku Plus
Smart Sudoku Plus is a polished, digital version of the classic logic-based number placement puzzle. The objective is to fill a $9 \times 9$ grid with digits so that each column, each row, and each of the nine $3 \times 3$ subgrids (also called “boxes”) contain all of the digits from 1 to 9.
The Objective
You start with a partially completed grid. Your mission is to use logic to fill in the missing numbers. The puzzle is solved when every cell contains the correct number according to Sudoku rules.
Official Rules
The game follows the standard three-rule logic of Sudoku:
- Row Rule: Every horizontal row must contain each number from 1 to 9 exactly once.
- Column Rule: Every vertical column must contain each number from 1 to 9 exactly once.
- Box Rule: Each of the nine $3 \times 3$ subgrids (separated by thick borders) must contain each number from 1 to 9 exactly once.
Understanding the Scoring & Interface
Smart Sudoku Plus provides real-time feedback to help you master the grid:
- Timer (⏱): Tracks how long it takes you to solve the puzzle.
- Error Counter (❌): Keeps track of your mistakes. If you place a number that contradicts the solution or creates a duplicate in a row, column, or box, it counts as an error.
- Difficulty Levels: * Easy: Provides ~40 clues.
- Medium: Provides ~32 clues.
- Hard: Provides ~25 clues.
- Visual Aids: * Selection: Clicking a cell highlights its entire row, column, and box in light blue.
- Same Number Highlight: Selecting a cell with a number already in it will highlight all other identical numbers on the board.
- Error Highlight: Duplicate numbers or incorrect entries will turn red.
Top Strategies to Win
The “Notes” Strategy (✏️)
When you aren’t sure which number goes in a cell, toggle Notes Mode. This allows you to place small “pencil marks” in a cell to track possibilities. When you finally place a large number in a row, column, or box, the game will automatically remove that number from your notes in the surrounding cells!
Process of Elimination
Look for rows or boxes that are almost full. If a row is only missing two numbers, check the columns intersecting those empty cells. If one of the missing numbers is already present in a column, it cannot go in that intersection, leaving only one possible spot.
Focus on “Given” Numbers
The numbers that are bold and dark (the “Givens”) cannot be changed. Use these as your anchors. If you see many “5s” already on the board, try to find the remaining “5s” first. The numpad at the bottom will dim numbers that have been placed 9 times, signaling that they are complete.
Undo (↩) and Erase (⌫)
Don’t be afraid to make a mistake. Use the Undo button to step back through your recent moves, or use Erase to clear a specific cell you’re no longer sure about.
